The Complete Box Set for Recovery

Your Story Counseling offers individual counseling to adults age 25 and over in a warm and encouraging environment utilizing CBT, DBT, narrative interventions, and EMDR therapy. We provide a safe and affirming space for you to work through life’s challenges including depression, anxiety, grief, trauma or significant life changes and change your story. Plot tangles happen, but the threads of your story are yours to choose what happens next. We place an emphasis on supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community. Caregivers and those in the helping professions may find our services particularly helpful.

Narrative

What are the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves? When are they helpful and when do they get in the way? Sometimes our problems become such a big part of our story that we start to see ourselves as the problem. With narrative therapy we can work on examining, challenging, and rewriting these stories in order to see our true selves with all of our strengths, abilities and worth.

DBT

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is fancy language meaning essentially “two different things at once”. How do we learn to access our emotions AND our logic? How do we grieve AND move forward? How can we accept AND change at the same time? DBT provides a variety of skills that asks us to experience our emotions while also seeing our circumstances and the world around us more clearly so that we may live our lives as fully and authentically as possible.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy allows us to look at how our thoughts, feelings and perceptions impact our behavior, choices and relationships. With CBT we can examine challenging experiences and outcomes and consider what might we do differently. And where do we start? CBT offers us the opportunity to work on making changes in the way we view things, the way we feel about things, and most importantly the choices we make and the actions we take to improve our lives.

EMDR

Sometimes we have some pretty negative stories about ourselves. Often those stories are the result of some pretty challenging memories. Simply put, those types of experiences are what we call trauma. With Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy we use gentle stimulation such as eye movements or shoulder tapping while taking a look at those memories to help our brain and body start to do the work of changing the way we see ourselves.
